Theodore is the first plush teddy bear, a classic from the early 1900s Brooklyn. He was born from the rise of the home sewing movement, before teddy bears ever had a name.
His story is said to begin when President Roosevelt famously refused to harm a captured bear on a hunting trip, an act of compassion that inspired a new kind of toy. Soon after, a bear was stitched in his honour and given a name: Teddy’s Bear.
